First Day of School. No?

I was supposed to have a practical lesson today. It was scheduled for the afternoon slot of 1pm to 2pm. So I woke up at 11am this morning (lazy lazy me.. I know..). My room mate had already been to school and back. Haha, that highlights how slack I am uh? So we went out for lunch together. Hell.. I saved money for breakfast this way- not that I intended to.

We went to this place that sells Japanese food. The price ranges from $5 to $9. The drinks cost about $2, expensive eh? I had a Pokka lemon tea for $2.10. Outrageous prices! M order took 20 minutes to arrive. The cute girl at the counter told me so and well.. I was too polite to let her know that I was a little rush for time.

So I rushed back home for a bathe and took off for school immediately. The laboratory was on the sixth floor and the common walkway which I was on was on the fourth floor. I took the stairs and reached the room just in time. The class was quite empty then but I thought that is the norm around here. So I logged onto the computer and looked at my course notes while waiting for the lecturer to arrive.

After 15 minutes of waiting and still no one, I was feeling pretty wierd. Perhaps there wasn't a practical on at all. I went off and took a walk along the common corridors looking at the posters. You could find something useful there. Students and retailers would post advertisements for their unwanted books, furnitures and stuff. You could find a good deal there. I saw an advertisements for second hand books and it was selling the textbook i would require for one of my modules. It was going for $40. I would reckon the price of a first hand book to be around twice the amount.

I also saw an acquaintance I met on orientation day. He was on the way to the library with his group of friends. He asked me along since I told him that my class was over.

And so I tagged along. He was going to print out his lecture notes. He did his notes and we went out for an early dinner. MacDonald's it is. The value meals come in three different sizes. Talk about customisation..

It is home after that. I have an early class tomorrow which starts at 8am. My last lesson ends at 3pm tomorrow. After that, me and my room mates are deciding to go Chinatown to shop for groceries. I am running out of food. Even the five packs of instant noodles are down to two now. I am going to buy more maggie mee. I am also planning to cook some soup. I simply love soup. So if you guys have some soup recipes you would like to share with little old me, send them to weida@singnet.com.sg.

Sunny Day~!

Sexpo on Sat.

It was pretty disappointing to be honest. I was expecting Aussie girls to be chained on torture beds and whipped to death. What I got was stores after stores selling sex products.

The entrance fee was AU$18. It was expensive for what was on offer. They had a live performance on every half hour intervals. The live shows were the more interesting bit of the exhibition. Most of the shows were 15 minutes strip performances by Miss Australia or Mr Hunk. So I was enjoying this little show by Miss Australia(you don't get this kind of thing in Singapore). I didn't take any photos though because no one else was and I don't want to look like this Asian pervert whom had never see anyone nude before.

I didn't take much photos at the exhibition because there weren't much to photograph at the exhibition. Serious..

There wasn't any topless ladies walking around in bunny suits selling claviers. There wasn't any live demostrations of sex toys. There wasn't any animals vs human like of thing.

So what was on? There was this store offering shaving service. So this young lady got hers shaved right in front everyone. How's that for courage? There was another store which has this Mercedes SLK on display and two Aussie babes accompanying it. You could have your pictures taken with them for $10. The two ladies would pull down their top for that. So well.. I didn't get a picture. The two ladies were taller than me and it wouldn't look good on film would it? Anyway I was just having an eye-opener being at the exhibition. I even met my primary school classmate at the exhibition. What a coincidence! 4,000 kilimetres from home and fancy meeting someone you have never met on the streets in Singapore right here in sunny Brisbane, Australia. She was equally surprised to see me there. We exchanged contact numbers a bit of our current status. She's studying in University of Queensland.

Me and my roommate exited the exhibition hall after 3 hours. We went to the town where the exhibition hall was situated and got a bite at this fastfood outlet call Nandos. It serves stuff like burgers and the usual grilled stuff. That is about all that was interesting yesterday.

Sunny Sunday (today).

I went to this local bazaar today. The bazaar opens every Sunday from 7am to 3pm at this pier call the Eagle Pier. The bazaar is located just besides Brisbane River. From the marketplace, you have a great view of the riverbanks of Brisbane River. The bazaar sell a wide range of products. From bananas to handmade hats, you could find some fanciful stuff here. I had my sights on a nice metal sword. It cost about $40 and I would definitely buy it if I have spare cash at the end of my studies here. Hope it wouldn't be sold away.

The bazaar stretches for a few hundred metres and would take you about an hour to go from end to end. The people there are just so friendly. It is really different from back home. The Aussies tell you about their products with a positive attitude. It doesn't seems like they are desperate to sell you things. It's just in their nature that they take time to explain things and make small talk with you. A perfect example is this guy selling hammocks. He set sup his hammock nicely on two metal stands and simply lays on it. I think that he is sleeping when we were passing by his stall. What a laid back attitude! Literally!

Haha.. I am trying to get used to the way of life here. There are many things which I have yet to discover and many things to learn just yet. I am doing my best and paying attention to the happenings around me. Will keep you all updated as I make my rounds.

Online~!

Yes I am online at last. Its seems like there is already internet access all this while. It's just a matter of getting the settings configured. Well.. better late than never.

Allow me to update you guys on whats happening around me.

Living in the city is boring stuff. Most of the shops are closed after 5pm. A few supermarkets and stores are opened till 7pm. It is a dead city after that though. What you can find after 7pm are the 24hours stores like 7-11 or a few bars scattered here and there. So what do I do after 7pm? Nothing much basically. That is quite depressing for a night owl like me. Back in Singapore, I would most probably be driving out for supper and coffee.

Right here in the heart of Brisbane's central business district, such activities are unlikely to be carried out. Firstly, no car. Although second hand cars are sold cheaply here, it is still beyond my means to get one. Secondly, I am still very very unfamiliar with the place. Whenever I am out these few days, it is always with my room mates. They brought me to the mall, the supermarkets, the bank and to school as well. So you can see I am pretty helpless without them. Get me a couple of weeks and I should be more independent.

About meals..

I prepare all three meals myself (proud smirk). Haha. I cook my lunch and dinner. For breakfast I have cereals! I am leading quite a healthy lifestyle over here. I drink orange juice regularly, I eat fruits bought from the supermarket, I don't skip meals. I get hungry every now and then here. I feel quite different ever since I have been here. My appetite has become better since day two. I always finish what I cooked. Back home, I always waste food at every meal.

Enough of my crapping eh? It's just that I have so much to tell all at once I jumbled up all the contents. More organised writing next time. Seeya~

Hello Everyone~

Hihi!

This is daZ addressing everyone form down under. How is everyone doing today? Thatz good!

Just a small update today. The internet at my place is not up yet. I am now blogging from the computer laboratory in school. QUT has serveral 24hours labs and I am in one of them now. This is my second day here in Brisbane and I am trying to get use to the life here. The way of life is pretty similiar back home in Singapore. Nothing much has been drastic, yet..

The food is somewhat similiar, nothing out of the extraordinary. The weather is exactly the same as Singapore's. The people mind their own business and I have not had much interaction with the locals yet. I had been to their stores and bank and bought a few stuff and talked to the cashiers and staff, but did not talked to them at length. I would get my chance soon. Tomorrow's the first day of the orientation week at QUT. The time now is 22 minutes pass midnight and I oughta get my beauty sleep soon.

More updates and pictures when my internet is up. Take care everyone.

P.S. : To those that sent me off at the airport, a very big thanks! I really appreciated it. To those that did not, at least send your presents over! Haha. Just kidding.

Cheers,
daZ

Valentine's Day

and I am packing my luggage...

It is saddness upon saddness..

As I take out my T-shirt piece by piece, folding it nicely into a square and stacking them neatly on top of each other, I could feel the immerse pressure building up. I am about to leave soon. That thought left me momentarily stunned.

...

..

.....

It needs some time to get use to.

As I place the clothe hangers aside, I didn't realise that they were building into a big pile already. I counted them and I had 23 empty hangers. I am bringing lots of clothes over. One cant be too safe. I am sure they do not have t-shirts my size over there..

My friend Ben flew off this morning. He is going to Sydney for a two and a half year bachelor with honors program. My turn would come soon.

I do not miss my room.

I do not miss my computer.

I miss you..

5th day

of the Chinese new year..

Just went to the Big Book Store at Clementi to buy some stationeries and clocked up an amazing bill.

I bought $47.45 worth of pens and stuff! I was a little taken back to say the least..

Pens and pencils cost thrice as much in Australia. That was the feedback I got from friends and relatives whom had studied there. So I thought well.. I had better get those items on the cheap here.

I bought ..

2 blue Pilot G-1 Grip at $1.45 each,

2 blue Pilot Super Gel at $0.90 each,

1 red Pilot G-1 Grip at $1.45,

1 black Pilot G-1 Grip at $1.45,

1 Techniclick II mechanical pencil at $2.35,

2 pencil lead refill at $2.15 each,

1 Pental Clic Eraser 2 at $1.60,

1 eraser refill at $1.15,

4 different coloured highlighter at $1.30 each,

3 piece ruler pack at $1.80,

2 correction pen at $4.10 (damn ex!) each,

and a lecture pad at $1.80.

Quite a shopping list eh? Haha..

The cashier had a hard time punching in the price manually. I still had lots of stuff which I need to bring over. They include an alarm clock, a laptop lock, textbooks, a pair of sandals, a school bag, sunglasses and a plug converter. Anyone wanna send me presents?

Having fun?

A very happy new year to everyone.

Everyone must be busy these few days. Read blogs of friends these few days and you hardly find a new entry. It is no wonder. With the two days of public holidays and the weekend coming up, everyone must be packing their schedules with activities. I happen to have time and the mood to blog just now.

Just returned from my grandfather's place. Our family usually do not visit on the second day of Chinese new year but this year is a bit special. There is a buffet lunch and a photo-taking session at my grandfather's place. Woke up early after a late night at Shijie's place. Feeling a little off-colour now and it is only 3pm!

Just to keep you all a little updated during this festive period. Cheers~

Blogs

I love to read at other's bloggies. I love to read other people's stories, their life, their thoughts..

What better way than to read their blogs? you don't have to ask them questions and all you have to do is to read their words. They are writing what they want people to know. Sometimes they choose to let their readers know the good stuff only and omit the ugly details. But being a blog reader you got to accept whatever you read.

I like to read blogs because you read without having the intention to pass a comment. How often can you do that during a face to face conversation?

I like to read blogs because the story is told without interruptions from the audience. How often do you get to finish a story without being interferred?

I like to read blogs because they are like fantasy stories. When you follow a blogger for a long time, it seems like you are living his life too. You share the same sentiments as him and you could almost feel the same heartache as him if he is a good enough writer.

I would be leaving next next Saturday, though that would be of no difference to my readers..
