Q.U.T.

Time to show you guys a picture of my school. Below is the map of Q.U.T.. It can be really useful when you are new to the place and need to get from block to block.

Copyright http://www.qut.edu.au/.

The building indicated by the red dot is when the School of Information Technology building is. That is the S block where most of my practicals are held. I have lectures and tutorials at buildings all over the school. I have lessons at N, O, Z and B block. Lessons are pretty scattered around the campus and it's not like in polytechnic where most lessons are concentrated in a single building.

I do plently of walking around in school and in Australia basically. I live in the city and all that I need can be found around me (less love). It is only five minute's walk from my place to the main shopping district. That area is where all the commercial and entertainment buildings are. From groceries to pubs to the arcade, one could find most of what they require to get by the entire school year.

Things you cant find there would most likely to be Asian-exclusive like authentic Chinese goods. These luxury items you would need to find at Chinatown. But well, that's another post.

End of the road

Hi guys, I have decided on a sad decision and here it is. I have decided to cease writing on my blog.

The road has been long and tiring.

When I first started out, I was full of enthusiasm and passion. The blogs were interesting and of high quality. As the time went by, the passion and quality of the entries had dropped. It hit rock bottom recently when I do not feel like blogging at all. Instead of continuing posting half-hearted entries, I have decided to stop writing.

The blog shall not be taken down though. It will remain as it is. I hope you had enjoy my writing as much as I had writing it.

Thank you for accompanying me through.

Cheers,
daZ

Rainy Day

It's a rainy day here in Brisbane. One of the few days in a month that it is so. It rains an average of 2 hours a week here. The shower brings an illusion of an early night here. from the view in my living room, I could see the small stretch of garden just outside my doorstep. The garden belongs exclusively to those living on the ground floor only, that's me.

Weekly, there will be a gardener who comes and tends to the garden. There are small trees, short plants and sanded walkway in the garden; the works. Nobody uses the garden much. The garden leads to nowhere. It is encompass by a fenceline which seals the garden along with the walls of the residential building; think of secret garden. HMmmm..

I am doing my project and tutorial in this cool, fine weather. It is quite a change from back home. Back to my work. More updates later.

Dinner from yesterday.

A Real Study Week

It is a full week of studying, doing of tutorials and project for me. It is tiring and a busy student's life. I have got two projects due in three week's time. The only thing I am looking forward to is the 10 days break starting next Friday. It is Easter holidays starting next week and it has come at a timely moment.

Although my school hours at the university is short, whatever time I have left is spent study-oriented. I had just rearrange the tables in the living room for better studying. Now, I have a whole table for my laptop, file-holder and studying purposes. This is great, having my own space is absolutely essential for conducive studying.

My housemate also cleared out a shelf and threw away unattended stuff he had left lying for the past month. I took a level on the shelf and brought out my books from my room. With the textbooks out in the open, I am more likely to open them up for reading. ;)

Its a stroll in the autumn sun now. The temperature at night in the house has not changed much. The environmental temperature has dropped by a degree from the time I first arrived in Brisbane. The morning and early afternoon sun is still as bright but not as stinging when compared with the weather weeks ago. I am really looking forward to winter time.

Cant wait to put on my jacket..

Third Week

of school that is..

No classess today, but week three of University is not to be underestimated. I continued on my project today. Been busy on my laptop typing out my report. In between, I was doing my tutorials for this week. I find myself to be quite a hardworking chap. Haha. I was quite surprised myself to be doing all this work today. I am getting lazier as the days go pass. I thought I would not make it(doing homework) today but I did.

So proud of myself I decided to give myself a present. Yes! I bought myself a shining new wireless mouse. It is in two shades of colour; blue and metalic gray. It looks pretty cool. Will post up pictures of little mousey next time. The house is not ready for pictures yet. Planning a reshuffling of the furnitures in the living room tomorrow. I am planning for optimal furniture arrangement for my studies. The position of the tables now meant that I have to place my laptop on a coffee table and sit on the floor while I am typing this. I plan to use the dining table for my computing and studying purpose.

The living room is a little messy for studying. Whenever I do my tutorials, my books and notes and files would be spilled over the carpeted floor. And I would be sprawled all over looking for my papers. Doing this over the table would definitely be better.

That's all for today. Gotta prepare for school tomorrow. Take care folks~!

Sunny Day

It's Sunday today and how is the weather in Singapore? I cant really tell but it is a good guess to say the sun is shining as bright over there.

How is the weather at Brisbane? Sunny with a touch of lemon. Haha. It is really fine over here. No rain, just the occassional hailstorm. It's autumn now. The nights are getting a little chilling. I could wear my long sleeve jacket in a couple of weeks.

Meals

It's time I show you concern folks what little daZ is eating over here. Below is a picture of my dinner today. It consists of a nice healthy serving of noodles. The noodles are boiled in water with no preservatives added. The noodles is then served on top of some sesame oil and oyster sauce. Next is two omelettes done on a frying pan. Always remember to put more oil so that the egg would not stick onto the pan. Especially if you are not using a non-stick pan like me.

Notice the four pieces of tofu-like cubes. They are fried fish tofu. Give them a nice warm up over a hot frying pan and they taste real good. Now for the finale, two big chicken drumsticks. Deep-fried! Add a little pepper and dark soy sauce for good measure. There you have it, a nice home cook meal.

Yum! Yum!

Life has settled down to a nice rythmn. I go to school on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays for the entire day. On Mondays, I would usually be doing my tutorials and house-keeping. I do my laundry every four days or so, depending on the amount of clothes I churn out. I try to keep that to a minimum on clothes that require ironing. I have not iron a single piece of my clothes yet. That does not mean that I don't wash my clothes. It is just that I do not wear those shirts I have not ironed yet. When I had exhaust the entire line of fresh shirts, I would start ironing.

I do my groceries at the local supermarket and at Chinatown. WoolWorths, the dominant name with chains of supermarkets under its name, is where I do my grocery shopping. Think of it as our NTUC. I would buy about five days worth of food at each single trip. At Chinatown, I would buy the goods exclusive to shops that sells Asian products. It is the only place that you can find more than 10 Asian brands.

On Fridays, weekends would have came early for me. No classess on Fridays mean that I can sleep till 12pm! Not that I exploit that advantage. I foresee a heavy load of school work in the weeks ahead and have plans to make use of spare time to complete them. On Saturdays and Sundays, I predict them to suffer the same (mis)fortune as Fridays. I have already tied up with my assignment partners to meet up on Sunday to discuss our project.

Shall keep you all updated in due time.

From a distance..

the world looks blue and green, and the snow-capped mountains white.
From a distance the ocean meets the stream, and the eagle takes to flight.

From a distance, there is harmony, and it echoes through the land.
It's the voice of hope, it's the voice of peace,it's the voice of every man.

From a distance we all have enough, and no one is in need.
And there are no guns, no bombs, and no disease,no hungry mouths to feed.

From a distance we are instruments marching in a common band.
Playing songs of hope, playing songs of peace.
They're the songs of every man.
God is watching us. God is watching us.God is watching us from a distance.

From a distance you look like my friend, even though we are at war.
From a distance I just cannot comprehend what all this fighting is for.

From a distance there is harmony, and it echoes through the land.
And it's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves,it's the heart of every man.

It's the hope of hopes, it's the love of loves.
This is the song of every man.
And God is watching us, God is watching us,God is watching us from a distance.
Oh, God is watching us, God is watching.God is watching us from a distance.

===================================================

It is from a distance that you are reading these words. You may be in Malaysia, you may be in USA, you may be in Singapore, you may be in Australia. Wherever you are, do not be concern about the distance. For the greatest distance in the world is not between sky and land, but of me besides you and you not realising it.

More Pix

Here are the pictures I promised. I think that I had been writing crap entries of late. The reason is due to my impatience in getting my thoughts through to you all. I realised that is not the perfect situation a blog should be written. So I am taking some time off to gather my thoughts and organise my writing. Enjoy the pictorial in the absence of my crapping.

Best friends never leave the heart.

See what I mean..

And suddenly I have so many of them..

This is a rare one: Yunhong.

He should be here with me but unfortunately he did not make it: Zhenguo.

School

I started doing my tutorials today. Hardworking eh? I started on my database systems tutorial one. It seems quite wierd to put that in words doesn't it? You guys should think that I never do my tutorials during polytechnic life right? Well, you are probably right. Who bothers about tutorials in polytechnic? Perhaps people who has too much time on their hands..

Anyway, I was quite enthusiastic about starting out on my first tutorial. It involves looking up on my lectures notes, refering to my textbook and tying the answers on Words. Very much schooling activities huh? I kind of miss doing such things. Being in the army for so longreally tunes one's mind towards studying. I am now savouring every minute of my schooling life.

Spent a couple of hours on that tutorial alone. It was much longer than I had expected. It was 4pm by the time I am done with it. Time to meet up with my classmate for dinner outside. Foodcourts in Australia close terribly early. Most are pulling down their shuttles at 5pm. Ate an expensive meal of roasted meal noodle served by a chef from Hongkong. It is lesson time after that.

Evening lectures are new to me. Having a 6pm timeslot on the timetable news some getting used to. The module is Principles of Information Management. The class was pretty small. About 40 people max. But the students come from a range of backgrounds, not your usual 20 year olds. There is quite a number of working professionals taking the module too. They were asking questions and having conversations with the lecturers which I wouldn't have thought of. Bracing myself for some tough competition. From the first lesson, I figured this would be an interesting module.
